AmeriCorps VISTAs Strengthen Communities with Cities of Service

Cities of Service and the Corporation for National and Community Service – the federal agency which administers AmeriCorps – with support from The Rockefeller Foundation, have partnered to bring Resilience AmeriCorps to 10 cities. Resilience AmeriCorps members will drive citizen engagement with local impact volunteering programs designed to improve environmental and social resiliency in low-income communities. Learn more about what it means to be an AmeriCorps VISTA member.

Our additional federal partners in this initiative are the U.S. Department of Energy, the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

In Fall 2015, the cities of Anchorage, Ala., Boulder, Colo., Chicago, Ill., El Paso, Texas, Minot, N.D., New Orleans, La., Norfolk, Va., Pittsburgh, Pa., Phoenix, Ariz., and Tulsa, Okla., will each publish job descriptions for 2 AmeriCorps VISTA members who will be embedded in their respective City Halls. Each city will focus on environmental and social resilience challenges directly related to the city's needs. If you are interested in applying for one of the Resilience AmeriCorps VISTA roles, please submit a statement of interest to resilienceamericorps@citiesofservice.org. Please indicate any preferences regarding city placement in the statement of interest.

In the meantime, feel free to learn more about the type of activities you may be engaged in by reading about what AmeriCorps VISTAs in another Cities of Service AmeriCorps program, City Hall AmeriCorps VISTA, are doing to revitalize neighborhoods through Love Your Block in Richmond, CA and Seattle, WA.
